The cultural promotion programs aim to realize Indonesia as a country based on cultural diversity, which educates, reconciles, and prospers (the community).
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture has urged all young Indonesians to actively take part in preserving wayang (traditional puppetry) as part of the nation’s heritage.

"The young generation has a strategic role in the attempts to preserve various cultures in Indonesia, including wayang," deputy for the coordination of mental revolution, culture promotion, as well as sports achievement at the ministry, Didik Suhardi, said on Saturday.

On its part, the government has continued to intensify and optimize various strategic programs for preserving local cultures, he added.

"The cultural promotion programs aim to realize Indonesia as a country based on cultural diversity, which educates, reconciles, and prospers (the community)," he remarked.

Various stories told through wayang performances are relevant to the National Movement for Mental Revolution, he said.

"In wayang (stories), there are many (noble) values, namely work ethic, mutual cooperation, and integrity," the deputy added.

Hence, his party has strived to bolster a number of programs for developing and preserving wayang so that the younger generation becomes interested in traditional cultural shows.

"The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture continues to carry out dissemination and education about wayang through various performance activities, which aim to make the younger generation love and better know about Indonesian traditional culture," he stated.

The ministry hopes that the various philosophies contained in the wayang stories, especially those espoused by characters who have integrity, hard work, and the spirit of mutual cooperation, can be disseminated more widely.

Furthermore, the ministry has also invited young people to actively participate in supporting the National Mental Revolution Movement by campaigning for a change in mindsets and lifestyles to realize the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision, Suhardi said.

"The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture continues to highlight that productive and superior youth are the main keys for Indonesia's development to achieve the Golden Indonesia 2045 (vision),” he added.
