Jakarta (ANTARA) - People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) deputy speaker Lestari Moerdijat has highlighted the need for all-party support to promote a sense of safety among tourists at tourist attractions in view of the extreme weather forecast for the year-end.

"Stakeholders at the central and regional levels in the tourism sector must ensure that access to and in tourism areas is safe for tourists amid the forecast of extreme weather at the end of 2022," she said in a statement issued here on Thursday.

According to Moerdijat, the readiness of tourist destination areas is needed to ensure the safety of tourists amid the extreme weather forecast in a number of regions in the country.

Several supporting factors of tourism will be affected by extreme weather, such as transportation, access roads to tourism areas, lodging, and tourist attractions, she said.

"I hope in several supporting sectors of tourism, all parties, including the governments at the central and regional levels, and the community can prioritize safety," she added.

She said that several anticipatory measures to strengthen the safety of tourists must be improved.

The dissemination of the latest information regarding weather conditions around tourism sites, warning signs, safe routes, or access to tourism sites must be carried out to guide prospective tourists, she advised.

"Moreover, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has predicted that the movement of domestic and foreign tourists to a number of tourist destinations in the country this year can reach up to 800 million trips with an increase in the number of tourists during the 2022 Christmas and 2023 New Year holiday period," she said.

Moerdijat further said that the tourism sector is projected to surpass the target of 703 million domestic tourist trips and 5.3 million foreign tourist trips.

She opined that the optimism in the tourism sector must be supported by the assurance of safety for tourists, which all parties must strive for during the holiday period.
