Jakarta (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian has asked the governments of regions with high inflation rates to make creative breakthroughs apart from implementing the nine inflation control steps.

"In regions with high inflation, I have visited maybe almost eight provinces and met with the regional heads, governors, district heads," he said, according to a press release received on Tuesday.

He made the statement at the Coordination Meeting for Regional Inflation Control, which was held online and offline at the headquarters of the Home Affairs Ministry here on Monday (March 27, 2023).

One of the examples of creative breakthroughs that can be made by regional governments is implementing urban farming, Karnavian said.

Meanwhile, examples of the nine inflation control steps include holding regional inflation control team meetings, carrying out affordable market operations, providing social assistance, providing transportation subsidies, and establishing inter-regional cooperation.

The minister stressed that breakthroughs are necessary, especially given the current increase in the prices of several commodities due to the high demand for goods and services during Ramadan and ahead of Eid al-Fitr.

Based on data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), there are several commodities that need to be monitored: rice, bird's eye chili, broiler chicken meat, chicken eggs, and garlic.

Therefore, he urged regional governments and the community to carry out the grow-your-own-food movement.

In addition, he asked regional heads to regularly check the availability of commodities in their respective regions to prevent scarcity. He also asked that the results of the monitoring be delivered to the central government.

He expressed the hope that the data and numbers reported will be accurate and in accordance with the situation on the field so that the government can prepare more accurate policy interventions.
