Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Police Chief Inspector General Johanis Asadoma urged police officers to showcase a humane and friendly demeanor towards residents in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, while securing the 2023 ASEAN Summit.

"Show your humanity and friendliness while managing the traffic or securing (the ASEAN Summit) in Labuan Bajo," Asadoma stated during the 2023 Operation Komodo Turangga roll call for the ASEAN Summit at the local police headquarters here on Saturday.

While elaborating on his point, Asadoma cited as an example that if residents were to become rowdy or disruptive during the course of the event, then officers were expected to keep a cool head in addressing the issue to prevent matters from escalating.

Officers assigned to the security operation must also ensure having sound physical and mental health, the police chief emphasized.

Meanwhile, Asadoma explained that the local police's responsibility in securing the ASEAN Summit would be only within the third security ring from the venue, as the second ring is the responsibility of the military and the first ring is secured by the Presidential Security Guard (Paspampres).

"Hence, I ask officers assigned to the third ring to ensure that any issue within the ring does not reach the second security ring," he stressed.

The provincial police and the district police forces have readied 1,660 personnel to secure the international summit, he remarked while adding that their mobilization to Labuan Bajo by sea will start on Sunday (April 30).

During the roll call, Asadoma and other provincial police top brass also inspected security vehicles and equipment, such as tactical vehicles, mobilized to secure the ASEAN Summit.

He also inspected the readiness of anti-riot forces and police officers' performance during the VVIP guest security simulation at the roll call.
