I want to review whether the sales here have witnessed an increase or decline.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) visited Tanah Abang Market and Sarinah Mall on Thursday to review the sales trends during the period from Ramadan up to days before Eid al-Fitr this year.

"I want to review whether the sales here have witnessed an increase or decline," the President told journalists at Sarinah Mall, Central Jakarta.

According to him, all the merchants he greeted claimed to have experienced an increase of 50–80 percent in their turnover during the said period.

He affirmed that the trend was in line with the government's forecast regarding an increase in money circulation during the period of Ramadan, days before Eid, and the 2023 Eid holiday.

"I think this is good. The trend aligns with our prediction that money circulation would highly increase during the period of Ramadan to the Eid holiday. According to our estimate, the circulation reaches Rp230 trillion," he informed

The figure was on par with the economic potential predicted for the tourism and creative economy (parekraf) sector for the period in question.

Earlier on Tuesday (May 2, 2023), Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said that the economic potential of the parekraf sector during the period reached Rp335.3 trillion.

Based on the related ministry's official website, the figure was based on a survey carried out from March 31 to April 28, which showed that the average tourist spending reached Rp2,708,732 per capita, higher than the initial prediction of Rp1.9 million.

The figure will connect with Minister Uno's estimate if it is combined with the Ministry of Transportation’s projection for national movement during the 2023 Eid holiday, which reached 123.8 million people.
