Jakarta (ANTARA) - Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki HadimOeljono said the government seeks to begin construction of the House of Representatives (DPR) building in the new capital city (IKN) Nusantara in 2024.

"Hopefully, in 2024 everything will be ready to start constructing the DPR building in the IKN," the minister said at a working meeting with the Commission V of DPR in Jakarta, Wednesday.

At the meeting, he announced that the PUPR Ministry had determined the winners of the competition for the DPR building design in the IKN.

"For the DPR building in the IKN, we have held a competition and we have selected the best contestant from it," the minister said.

The PUPR Ministry, he said, is currently taking follow-up actions to the detail of the design for the DPR building.

Previously, the PUPR Ministry selected the winners of the IKN Area and Building Design Concept Competition for the Vice Presidential Palace Complex, Legislative Office Complex, Judiciary Office Complex, and Worship Complex.

The ministry plans to work on the construction of the IKN complexes by taking into account the design works of the competition's winners.

The selected designs have met the concept criteria, including fulfilling the building key performance indicator (KPI) that has been stipulated in the Document of Urban Design for the Central Government Core Area (KIPP) of the IKN.

Next, the interior and exterior designs reflect the nation's identity, while paying attention to applicable regulations and provisions regarding state buildings (BGNs) and adopting the principles of green building, as well as building convenience.

Minister Hadimuljono noted that the new capital city will undergo a gradual development process until 2045 within the concept of "Future Smart Forest City of Indonesia,” in order to ensure that the process takes environmental aspects into account.

According to the minister, the government is not facing any prominent obstacles in the IKN physical development process. Currently, the PUPR Ministry is working to complete the infrastructure construction, such as roads to provide connectivity.
