Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo has officially launched a program to implement non-judicial resolution of past gross human rights violation incidents in Indonesia, starting from Aceh, on Tuesday, in order to fulfill the rights of victims.

"By saying the name of God, today, I officially launch the program for the implementation of the recommendations for non-judicial resolution of past gross human rights violation incidents in Indonesia," the president stated in Rumoh Geudong, Bili Aron Village, Pidie District, Aceh, on Tuesday.

President Widodo arrived at the launch location at around 11 a.m. local time aboard Indonesian Airforce's Super Puma Helicopter. On his way to the event venue, the president was welcomed by a thousand students and santris (Islamic boarding school students).

During the launch event, the head of state was accompanied by several Indonesian ministers and ambassadors of friendly countries.

The launch of the program constitutes one of Widodo's agendas and marked the initiation of the government's serious efforts to fulfill the rights of people, who fell victim to past human rights violation incidents.

Earlier, the president announced that the government is committed to succeeding the non-judicial settlement of 12 incidents involving gross human rights violations in the country.

Three of the cases occurred in Aceh Province, namely the incident in Rumoh Geudong and Pos Sattis in Pidie in 1989, the incident in Simpang KKA in North Aceh in 1999, and the incident in Jambo Keupok in South Aceh in 2003.

The remaining incidents include the mysterious shootings during the 1982-1985 period, Talangsari incident in Lampung in 1989, enforced disappearances during the 1997-1998 period, May riots in 1998, Trisakti and Semanggi incidents during the 1998-1999 period, and the murder of witchcraft shamans during the 1998-1999 period.

Meanwhile, the last two incidents took place in Wasior and Wamena in Papua during the 2001-2002 period and in 2003 respectively.
