The Jakarta provincial KPKP Office will prepare the market operation locations in several villages in Jakarta.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Food Agency (Bapanas), Jakarta regional-owned meat industry company Dharma Jaya, and the Jakarta provincial Food Security, Maritime Affairs, and Fisheries (KPKP) Office will hold cheap chicken market operations ahead of Eid al-Adha.

"Starting tomorrow (June 28, 2023), the Bapanas, Dharma Jaya, and KPKP Office will carry out market operations at a number of locations to sell chicken meat at low prices," acting governor of Jakarta, Heru Budi Hartono, said at Dharma Jaya’s slaughtering house here on Tuesday.

Head of the Bapanas Arief Prasetyo Adi informed that his party will hold the market operations for three days to up to one week.

"The Jakarta provincial KPKP Office will prepare the market operation locations in several villages in Jakarta," he said.

The commodity will be sold for less than Rp36 thousand (US$2.38) per kilogram (kg), so that people can afford cheap chicken meat, he added.

The Bapanas head said that his party has been mandated by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to set a reasonable price for both customers and breeders, since too low a price would bring losses to breeders.

Furthermore, he clarified the findings of President Widodo at Palmerah Market on Monday (June 26, 2023) on the price of chicken meat jumping to Rp50 thousand (US$3.31) per kg.

Adi said that the price was for chicken fillet, not non-fillet chicken meat.

In addition, he noted that the chicken meat price usually increases 5–10 percent two days before Eid al-Adha. He said that such an increase is still acceptable.

However, intervention efforts must be carried out if the price reaches Rp50 thousand per kg, he added.

To control food prices ahead of Eid al-Adha, the government launched the Cheap Food Movement (GPM) on Monday (June 26) at a number of locations in several districts and cities across Indonesia.

The program was initiated by Bapanas in collaboration with the related ministries, institutions, and corporations.

The government has announced a three-day national leave for Eid al-Adha 1444 Hijri from June 28–30, 2023.
