Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA) - At least 603 participants will attend the 22nd Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Varsity Carnival, which will be held at Syiah Kuala University (USK) from July 8–12, 2023.

"IMT-GT is an annual activity that aims to strengthen the sense of unity and solidarity in three countries, namely Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia, and help students to develop their potential," USK Vice Rector Mustanir said here on Friday.

USK has again been entrusted with hosting the IMT-GT Varsity Carnival this year. The university hosted the same event in 2021, but it was held online due to the pandemic, he added.

"This year, for the first time USK will welcome all IMT-GT participants on-site. This is a matter of pride because they can be present to see USK and Aceh directly," he said.

The IMT-GT participants will comprise 497 students and 106 officials, he informed. They belong to 12 universities that are engaged in the IMT-GT forum.

Four of the varsities are from Indonesia, namely Syiah Kuala University, University of North Sumatra (USU), Medan State University (Unimed), and Padang State University (UNP).

Meanwhile, 4 varsities from Malaysia will participate in the event: Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Technology Mara - Perlis (UiTM), University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).

The Thai universities that will join the IMT-GT are the Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RUTVS), Thaksin University (TSU), and Walailak University (WU).

During their time at USK, all IMT-GT participants will take part in sports matches, ranging from volleyball, football, badminton, tennis, and pétanque, to a fun run.

"This international forum is a very good momentum because it provides opportunities for our students to exchange ideas and share their experiences. It will be an amazing experience for them," Mustanir said.
