Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy V of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Jaleswari Pramodhawardani has said that human rights must be held during the implementation of work programs by local governments.

"The idea of organizing the Human Rights Festival (Festival HAM) is a joint effort of the government, the national human rights institution, civil organizations, and local governments to expand human rights-based cities/districts," she informed in Singkawang City, West Kalimantan, on Thursday.

At the signing of the 2023 Human Rights Festival cooperation agreement at the Singkawang Mayor's Office, West Kalimantan, Pramodhawardani said that local governments should accommodate context, promotion, respect, protection, and fulfillment of human rights.

The 2023 Human Rights Festival will be held in Singkawang from October 16 to 19.

According to her, the push for local government participation in fulfilling human rights reflects the practice of tolerance and efforts to strengthen diversity in Indonesia.

"Good practices and experiences in the fulfillment of human rights, especially in terms of regulations, can be Indonesia's good facade to the world," she said.

Singkawang City was selected as the host of the Human Rights Festival considering its high tolerance rate.

She revealed that the choice was made based on an assessment conducted by three institutions, namely the Presidential Staff Office, the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), and the International NGO Forum on Indonesian Development (INFID).

Based on the assessment, the work programs and regional regulations in Singkawang were found to be supportive of human rights fulfillment.

Besides supporting regulations, Pramodhawardani said the local government provides a space for Singkawang youth to express their voice, which enriches tolerance across generations in the city.

"Later, the invitees to the 2023 Human Rights Festival can get valuable experience on how tolerance is ingrained in community life in Singkawang," she added.
