Poverty alleviation, equal welfare, and climate change mitigation must go hand in hand.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati called attention to three important issues at the 2023 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) — poverty, welfare, and climate change.

"Poverty alleviation, equal welfare, and climate change mitigation must go hand in hand. The handling of these three issues has become increasingly critical amid the increasingly dynamic global situation," she said in a written statement received here on Friday.

The World Bank has a key role in creating innovative financing that has a positive impact internationally, she explained.

She highlighted the World Bank's modernization of business and financial models to overcome funding constraints. According to her, the bank has managed to increase positive impact through a more modern approach.

In addition, she highlighted the important role of ASEAN and expressed the hope that the IMF would look deeper into each ASEAN country.

She said that each ASEAN country has different characteristics, which is also an advantage for the region.

"The IMF's duty to manage the global financial situation will become increasingly complex. I hope the IMF can look deeper into each ASEAN member country to be able to provide us the best support in overcoming the global situation," Indrawati said.

She also outlined several of Indonesia's important roles, for instance, its 2023 ASEAN chairmanship, during which the ASEAN Taxonomy Version 2 was launched.

"(Indonesia's ASEAN chairmanship) discussed a range of issues starting from the digital economy, sustainability, food security, health architecture, sustainable development, and the ASEAN Taxonomy Version 2 to support green financing," she pointed out.

The Finance Minister and Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo attended the 2023 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Indrawati also participated in the 54th Joint Governors' Meeting of the WBG and IMF, South-East Asia Constituency, on Wednesday (October 11, 2023).
