Jakarta (ANTARA) - Commercial Director of PT Surveyor Indonesia Saifuddin Wijaya stated that South Korea had sought assistance related to halal product certification.

"We have started to enter (consult) several countries, such as China, Korea, and Japan. Recently, South Korea asked us for assistance in (verifying halal requirements) in cosmetic products," he stated after the symbolic handover of halal certificates here on Tuesday.

Wijaya said his side had discussed with South Korea about the requirements and process of applying for a halal certificate.

He remarked that South Korea had applied for halal verification for its products ahead of the obligatory halal certification for products that enter, circulate, and are traded in the Indonesian territory starting in 2024.

He explained that halal certification for all products, including food and beverages and the supply chain in Indonesia, is mandatory starting next year.

Meanwhile, Head of Surveyor Indonesia's Halal Inspection Agency, Afrinal, stated that his side will hand over halal certificates to 33 Chinese companies this November and December.

He said the companies applied for halal certification for products, such as food and beverages, children's snacks, sweets, marshmallows, cosmetics, and seasoning or spice products.

"A total of 16 (companies) have completed the processes, four companies are waiting in the process, and seven for audit and inspection this month and six for next month," Afrinal stated.

Afrinal said his side will also go to Japan to inspect the halal requirements for wood ear mushroom products that are commonly used for noodle dishes.

In addition, Surveyor Indonesia is exploring the provision of halal certification for products from other countries, including Thailand.

The Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) of the Religious Affairs Ministry earlier stated that all products entering, circulating, and being traded in Indonesian territory must be halal-certified starting from October 17, 2024.
