Solo (ANTARA) - Mayor of Surakarta, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, called on local retired state civil servants on Thursday to continue contributing to the city of Central Java and society in general.

"I always emphasize that, upon retirement, they can make contributions again for the residents and the city," Raka stated at an event attended by retirees of the Regional Secretary and Head of the Development Planning Agency (Bappeda) in Surakarta.

He said that contributions were not only in the social field but also in politics.

"For example, joining a political party would be very beneficial. The regional secretary, for instance, joined as a takmir (administrator) at Sheikh Zayed Mosque," he elaborated.

Raka said that other retirees who are still active and healthy can also make valuable contributions.

In connection with a former Surakarta official, Hendro Pramono, who became the chair of the regional winning team for presidential and vice-presidential candidates Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD in Surakarta, Raka said that it was not a problem.

"If it's his passion for politics, that's good, and I appreciate it. Passion in politics, business, or the environment—I can leave it to each of them. Everything is good," he remarked.

He assessed that there are still several retired state civil servants in the Surakarta government who are active and in good health.

"Whether as an advisor or in any other capacity, we appreciate it," Raka remarked.
