Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) underscored the need for Indonesia to strengthen its anti-corruption system, including a prevention system, licensing system, and internal monitoring system.

“That is because corruption is becoming more advanced nowadays. It becomes more complex, even cross-country and multi-jurisdictional, and uses the most advanced technology,” the president stated at the commemoration of the 2023 International Anti-Corruption Day in Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

The president emphasized that the government has developed online-based platforms to bolster efforts to eradicate corruption. Some of the platforms are the National Public Procurement Agency's (LKPP's) e-catalog application and an Online Single Submission (OSS) for risk-based business licensing.

“When I logged in (to the LKPP application), there were 50 thousand goods in the e-catalog. A report from the LKPP chairperson stated that there are currently 7.5 million goods in the e-catalog. The surge is rapid,” he stated.

President Widodo also remarked that the One Map Policy, which addresses spatial use overlaps, agrarian conflicts, and online tax systems, greatly aids in preventing people from committing corruption.

Through the Mineral and Coal Information System (Simbara), Indonesia can control how much of its resources are being exploited or exported to minimize the practice of corruption. Soon, a similar system will be developed for nickel and bauxite.

The president also urges strengthening regulation at the constitutional level to eradicate corruption.

“It is important to ratify the Asset Confiscation Law soon because (the law) is a mechanism to return state losses. I express hope that the government and the House of Representatives (DPR) can discuss and finish (the law) soon,” he stated.

President Widodo also urged the ratification of the Law on the Restrictions on Currency Transactions that will encourage a more transparent and accountable mapping of banking transfers.

"In commemoration of International Anti-Corruption Day, I encourage us all to jointly prevent the criminal act of corruption and provide a deterrent effect to officials who have committed corruption,” he stated.
