There is potential for coastal floods on January 8–13, 2024.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) of Jakarta has urged residents to remain vigilant against the potential for coastal floods in 10 locations in the North Jakarta and West Jakarta areas.

"There is potential for coastal floods on January 8–13, 2024. The potential coastal floods are estimated to occur at 7–11 a.m.," chief executive of the Jakarta BPBD, Isnawa Adji, said in Jakarta on Monday.

Based on monitoring conducted by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the 10 locations in North Jakarta and West Jakarta that have the potential for flooding are Kamal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, Pluit, Ancol, Marunda, Cilincing, Kalibaru, Muara Angke, and Kamal.

The Jakarta BPBD has asked residents in those locations to increase vigilance against increasing maximum sea tide heights, which have the potential to cause coastal floods.

He appealed to the public to continuously monitor the latest information regarding sea waves on the bpbd.jakarta.go.id/gelombanglaut webpage. This information can also be accessed via the pantaubanjir.jakarta.go.id/peta-banjir-berbasiskan-rt webpage.

"If you find emergencies that need help, immediately contact the Jakarta Alert call center 112," Adji said.

In addition to coastal floods, the Jakarta BPBD is monitoring the potential for hydrometeorological disasters, including floods, strong winds, landslides, and falling trees due to high-intensity rainfall.

Based on data from the BMKG, the peak of the rainy season is estimated to occur around January–February.

To anticipate floods and coastal floods due to high-intensity rainfall, the Jakarta BPBD is working with the Water Resources Office, the Fire and Rescue Office, and other agencies related to disaster management.

In addition to readying personnel, the Jakarta BPBD has also prepared hundreds of stationary pumps and mobile pumps to remove floodwaters.
