Jakarta (ANTARA) - Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated that primary health care is the closest health service for society, so it must focus on maintaining health instead of treating sick people.

“Staying healthy is not curative but promotive. We have forgotten to stay healthy. We are more concerned about treating sick people," Sadikin noted in a statement from his office on Wednesday.

Sadikin affirmed that by maintaining their health, people will lead a better quality of life and be more productive. Moreover, Indonesia will enter the peak of the demographic bonus in 2030.

In that year, Indonesia's population will be dominated by people from the productive age, so it can be utilized as a momentum to realize a golden Indonesia in 2045, Sadikin added.

The minister also pointed out that poor health conditions, such as stunting, could hinder brain development and reduce productivity.

He then highlighted that the contribution and role of the central, provincial, district, city, and village governments was important to build a health system focusing on maintaining health.

Sadikin noted that efforts to keep Indonesian society healthy was an extraordinary idea from the predecessors. Hence, the revitalization program will involve the construction of 300 thousand integrated health posts (posyandu) at the hamlet level, 85 thousand supporting community health centers (puskesmas), as well as the revitalization of 10 thousand puskesmas in sub-districts.

This revitalization started from health cadres, midwives, nurses, health equipment, health center laboratory equipment, and health center buildings. The hospital budget would be transferred directly to puskesmas and posyandu, he added.

He explained that the revitalization also encompassed carrying out a health program for all life cycles from toddlers to the elderly, such as a digital-based screening, immunization, and education to become more affordable, simple, and efficient.

The ministry held a health service development planning meeting themed "Planning for Health Service Development to the Village Level for 2025-2027" on February 28.

The meeting discussed planning for the development of health services up to the village level for the 2025-2027 period. In 2024, the ministry will also launch integrated primary health services at the district and city levels.
