Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Social Affairs Ministry has disbursed various social assistance for the victims of Mount Ruang's eruption in North Sulawesi Province.

The ministry stated here on Saturday, that a team was sent to the disaster site and distributed aid from the Tumou Tou Social Center in Manado.

"In addition to bringing logistical assistance, we also brought nurses and psychologists. We are working with the local health office to deal with evacuees," the head of the Tumou Tou Social Center Meerada Saryati Aryani remarked.

The eruption-impacted Tagulandang Island bordering the southern Philippines made the Ministry of Social Affairs cooperate with the Indonesian Navy to distribute aid.

The team deployed comprised the Ministry's Directorate of Social Protection of Natural Disaster Victims, a task force, the Tumou Tou Social Center staff, the North Sulawesi's Social Affairs Office, and Disaster Alert Cadets.

"We departed from the Limited Patrol Unit Port in Bitung, Manado, to the Tagulandang Island using the Navy's KRI Kakap 811 warship. This sea trip took six hours," the ministry's task force chief Devario Ardiansyahrul Ozifeira stated.

Upon arrival at the port of Tagulandang Island, the assistance was transported to the evacuation site located about five kilometers away using local community vehicles.

The ministry also set up tents for a public kitchen and logistics storage for evacuees in Apengsala Village, Sitaro District.

The assistance included 800 packages of instant food, 500 packages of side dishes, 500 packages of children's food, 100 sheets of blankets, 200 packages of adult clothing, 150 packages of children's clothing, and 160 packages of family essentials.

Moreover, the aid comprised 100 packages of kids' wear, 100 roll tents, 20 units of portable family tents, and five multipurpose tents.

The ministry also provides psychosocial support services to the evacuees since April 19, 2024.
