Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry aims for Indonesia to become the world's leading producer of halal products, citing the industry's vast potential as evidenced by export transactions reaching US$64.11 billion in 2024.

"We must firmly bolster and improve the entire halal industry ecosystem. This is not just a goal but a strategic necessity," Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza stated at the Halal Indo 2025 expo event launch in Jakarta on Monday.

According to Riza, Indonesia's position in the global Islamic economy continues to improve across various sectors.

This progress is reflected in the State of the Global Islamic Economy Report 2023/2024, which shows Indonesia has moved up one rank to third place, behind Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.

However, Indonesia still requires more push for the halal-based pharmaceutical and cosmetic sectors compared to countries where Muslims are not the majority.

Another challenge in developing the halal industry is the global branding of halal products, which is not yet optimal.

Riza pointed out that other countries have established strong positions in the global halal market, such as Australia, which has rapidly become the largest halal beef supplier, and China, a leading supplier of Muslim clothing.

"These countries have implemented strategic branding to secure their position in the global halal market," he remarked.

To boost the branding of the domestic halal industry to become a leading producer in the world, the Ministry of Industry will organize the Halal Indonesia International Industry Expo (Halal Indo) 2025, scheduled for September 25-28, 2025, in Tangerang, Banten.

Last year's Halal Indo event attracted over 12 thousand visitors, with a transaction value of Rp1.3 billion (around US$77,419), and a total commitment of Rp6 billion (around US$357,320).
