Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has warned the government of potential corruption risks in the disbursement of Rp200 trillion (US$11.7 billion) to five state-owned banks.

“There is a risk of corruption, as seen in the case of PT Bank Perkreditan Rakyat (BPR) Bank Jepara Artha, where a fictitious loan later defaulted,” said KPK Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu on Thursday.

Asep Guntur made the statement while announcing the arrest of five suspects in an alleged corruption case involving business loan disbursements to Bank Jepara Artha between 2022 and 2024.

“This case serves as a wake-up call. Recently, the government—through the Minister of Finance—disbursed Rp200 trillion in funds previously held at Bank Indonesia to state-owned banks,” he explained.

Despite the risks, Asep acknowledged that the disbursement supports the micro-economy and enables the state-owned banks to extend credit to the public, thereby boosting the national economy.

To safeguard the process, KPK will monitor the disbursement and use of the funds.

“The Monitoring Directorate under the Deputy for Prevention and Monitoring will oversee the disbursement to ensure the economic stimulus is implemented properly and benefits the community,” he said.

Earlier, on September 10, Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced that President Prabowo Subianto had approved the withdrawal of Rp200 trillion from the government’s total deposits of Rp425 trillion (US$25 billion) for distribution to several banks.

On September 12, Purbaya disbursed the funds to five state-owned banks: PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), PT Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI), and PT Bank Mandiri each received Rp55 trillion (US$3.2 billion); PT Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) received Rp25 trillion (US$1.4 billion); PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) received Rp10 trillion (US$588 million).
