Makassar, (ANTARA News) - The National Association of Cinema Owners objects to Regional Regulation No.3 2010 on Local Entertainment Tax estimated at 35 percent.

"We disagree with the 35 percent tax as it is too high that could affect the movie theater business," Chief of the National Association of Movie Theater Owner Donny Syafriuddin said here Monday.

Donny along with spokesman of the Association of Movie Importers Jimmy Herjanto Darmasamita and also national movie producer Chand Parwez said the Indonesian movie industry had grown well.

Theater owners in Makassar are gaining in number and the people`s interest, especially students, in cinemas are increasing, he said.

The local regulation might badly affect the cinema industry and lower the people`s interest that could reduce regional income as well, Donny said.

The 35 percent tax was the highest tax so far in Indonesia, he said, adding that the tax is even higher than those in Jakarta and Bandung.

Donny asked the local authorities, regional legislative assemblies and the government to find a better solution in order to boost the movie industry as well as to gain a profit for both national and regional income and the cinema businessmen, although the 35 percent tax was not violating a regulation.(*)
