Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesian House Speaker Marzuki Alie said that the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) served as a communication forum for building the 2015 ASEAN Community.

"We always establish communications between AIPA and ASEAN in the framework of attaining the goals and creating the ASEAN Community in 2015," Marzuki Alie said after an AIPA delegate meeting here on Saturday.

He said that the establishment of discussion forum between the AIPA and ASEAN last year served as a good momentum that indicated the synergy between the ASEAN governments and their parliaments.

"Cooperation between the parliaments and governments are vitally important because there are many resolutions made by the parliaments. The many resolutions would be difficult to be synergized if not coordinated by the two organizations," he said.

Since the birth of AIPA the resolutions could be popularized to the government but with the synergy the resolutions could be communicated directly to the government in the ASEAN context, he said.

"This is a good development. It should not happen that the parliamentary forum is not followed up by ASEAN," the Indonesian House Speaker said.

The birth of the AIPA began when Indonesia officiated the ASEAN Parliamentary Meeting (APM) on January 8 - 11, 1975.

The APM 3 in Manila, the Philippines on Agusut 29 - September 2, 1977, produced the draft statutes of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organizations (AIPO).

The first AIPO meeting was held in Singapore on September 26-28, 1978.

In 2006, the organization changed name into ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA).
