Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA News) - Visiting IDB president Dr Ahmad Mohamed Ali Madani on Thursday observed some construction projects in Banda Aceh municipality and Aceh Besar district in Aceh province after tsunami hit Aceh on December 26, 2004.

"I have visited Aceh three times, this is the IDB group`s commitment for the progress and welfare of tsunami victims in this region," he said.

The IDB president on the occasion visited the construction of the Al Makkah Al-Mukarramah Islamic Solidarity School in Lamnyong, two clinics in Aceh Besar district Lhoong and Alue Naga.

According to him, IDB has contributed financial aids totalling US$420 million for the reconstruction preojects.

In addition, OIC (the Organization Islamic Conference) also trusted IDB for Children, including "orphans kafala Program" who survived the disaster, and the "Saudi Charity Campaign" to conduct surveillance and carry out projects amounting to U.S. $ 42,200,000.

Ahmad Mohamad Ali said that IDB has become partner of the Indonesian Government through the Strategic Partnership Member States (MCPs) to improve the regional potential areas.

Previously, Dr Ahmad Mohamed Ali Madani observed the Maliki Islamic university campus in East Java on Tuesday.

Aceh bore the brunt of 8.9-magnitude undersea earthquake that unleashed a devastating tsunami on December 26, 2004, killing more than 200,000 people. (*)
