Palu, C Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - The nine Chinese immigrants arrested by immigration officers here several days ago have yet to undergo questioning, an immigration official said.

Head of Palu`s Immgration Inspection Section, Marsongko said here on Monday the Chinese immigrants were arrested for violating the country`s immigration law.

He said that pending their examination, they were accommodated in Hotel Winer on the beach of Palu Bay. "They are not held in the immigration detention cells because of the cells can not accommodate them," he said.

Immigration officers in Palu here arrested the nine Chinese nationals for having no official immigration documents on Friday last week.

Marsongko confirmed the arrest of the nine Chinese nationals here on Saturday.

He said that the Chinese citizens were arrested in a hotel around the Palu Bay at 9 pm local time on Friday night after immigration officials obtained tips from the public.

When they were arrested only one of the nine Chinese nationals possessed a passport and visa. "One of them named Zhang Zike has a valid passport and visa but it is a visit visa, not a work visa," he said.(*)
