West Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA News) - The West Sumbawa district administration, West Nusa Tenggara province is focusing on malaria, tuberculosis and HIV-AIDS prevention and eradication programs to support the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Head of public health and infectious disease control of West Sumbawa health office, Ruslan Efendi, said here, Monday, MDGs in Indonesia, and even in the world, are focused on the eradication of infectious diseases.

"The infectious diseases index covers the prevention in West Sumbawa of the three diseases. Though it is not yet included in the category of extraordinary cases, the standards for reporting and handling are expected to succeed," he explained.

Ruslan asserted that West Sumbawa includes the regions that successfully meet the program criteria to the best three of MDGs in West Nusa Tenggara, because West Sumbawa already applies rapid standards of prevention and treatment through the early alert system (SKD).

Handling of infectious diseases in the region is conducted by an integrated and achievement standards. For example, in the case of malaria, the health office covers potential problems, conduct a survey and a series of tests. After that, spraying, blood sampling as well as applying special handling system for the early emergence of certain disease symptoms.

"The mechanism of reporting are also assessed. In an incident, reporting is connected with the electronic data in the province, including the handling and control in the future," he explained.

According to the office`s data, specially for Malaria, West Sumbawa is still prioritizing Talonang transmigration area, Sekongkang district as endemic areas. Likewise, HIV/AIDS prevention is conducted through socialization and counseling to approach the patients.

Until now, the number of the fatal disease patients in West Sumbawa reached to 24. The number is predicted to increase steadily in nightclubs and sexual transactions.

Meanwhile, the prevention of tuberculosis common in the elderly is constantly being prevented through counseling in every health center. The low awareness of health is a major cause of the outbreak of the diseases.
