Kotabaru, South Kalimantan (ANTARA News) - Kotabaru district`s coal exports in June fell to US$269 million from US$317 million in May, an official said.

China emerged as the biggest market for the district`s coal in June, buying 1.5 million metric tons valued at US$100 million, Head of the Kotabaru District Trade, Investment and Market Management Office H Zaenal Arifin MAP said here on Thursday.

India came in second with 1.1 million metric tons worth US$46 million, followed by Thailand with 259 thousand metric tons worth US$9 million, Japan with 236 thousand metric tons worth US$28 million, and Malaysia with 217 thousand worth US$26 million, he said.

Meanwhile, coal exports to South Korea reached 213 thousand tons worth US$16 million, Taiwan 202 thousand tons worth US$18 million and Italy 126 thousand tons worth US$14 million, he said.

The Philippines and Vietnam respectively imported 92 thousand metric tons worth US$7 million and US$403 thousand, he said.

Overall, India remained the biggest market for Kotabaru`s coal among the top eight countries importing coal from the district in the first half of 2011, he said.

He said coal exports to a country fluctuated, depending largely on market price and demand.
