Situbondo, E. Java (ANTARA News) - Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Soeparno said Indonesian scouts movement members together with the community should participate in guarding the country`s border areas.

Admiral Soeparno made the statement after attending a diving event to mark the scouts movement`s anniversary at Situbondo`s Pasir Putih beach on Sunday.

The country`s scouts can help the Navy or Army in the regions especially in border areas, Soeparno said, asking the Navy to assist the scout movement.

To mark the scouts movement`s anniversary, a total of 614 divers carried the national red-and-white flag measuring 50x20 meters under the sea surface.

"The Navy should support all the scouts activities, esoecially those dealing with marine affairs," the Navy chief said, and asked scouts movement members to take part in efforts to preserve the marine environment for the present and future generations.

The giant national flag raised by scout divers on the bottom of the sea would continue to fly for three days and nights.(*)
