Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Deputy Governor of Jakarta city Prijanto announced his resignation, despite his term of office expired in October 2012.

In accordance with a press release from the Jakarta city public affairs division received here on Sunday, Prijanto`s resignation was officially submitted to the Interior Affairs Ministry on Friday (Dec 23) with a carbon copy sent to Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo.

According to Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo, his deputy`s resignation was obviously done carefully with many considerations.

"I regret the resignation of Jakarta`s Deputy Governor Prijanto, but I still respect his decision," said Fauzi Bowo.

Fauzi also sent his regards for Prijanto`s support and assistance while serving as his deputy, and hoped to maintain the relationship that has been created.

As the city`s governor, Fauzi said he will continue his job in serving to the residents of Indonesia`s capital and focus on his working program that needs to be finished.

In the meantime, chairman of Gerindra political party`s Regional Representatives Council (DPD) M Taufik, the resignation has been predicted several times.

Taufik was also still uncertain if Prijanto`s resignation is related to the plan that the deputy governor will run for the 2012-2017 Jakarta governor`s candidate.

"Prijanto has never spoken to Gerindra or the party`s joint committee on his will to run for the next Jakarta`s governor," he said.

Rumours on Prijanto`s resignation have been going on since 2007 due to the disharmonious relations between the two leading figures. (*)
