Sydney (ANTARA News/Xinhua-OANA) - Hundreds of residents have been evacuated from a nine- story building in Perth, capital of Western Australia after the apartment complex caught fire, local media reported Thursday.

The fire, which started at the Guildford Road complex in Mount Lawley at about 6:30 p.m. (local time) Wednesday, caused an estimated 1 million AU dollars (1.03 million U.S. dollars) in damage.

About 60 firefighters battled the fire for about an hour to bring it under control, according to reports of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).

Hundreds of residents relocated overnight to the homes of relatives and friends or hotels and are unsure when they can return home.

No one was injured in the blaze, the ABC reported.

Fire authorities in Perth are investigating the cause of the blaze.
