"The tornado destroying at least 217 houses."
Langkat (ANTARA News) - A tornado swept through three villages in Langkat district, North Sumatra, on Sunday evening and destroyed at least 217 houses, according to a reliable source on Monday.

"The tornado hit Sei Lepan, Babalan, and Brandan Barat villages, destroying at least 217 houses," Sei Lepan village head Wagito S said, adding that it lasted for 30 minutes, from 6 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.

Earlier on Friday night, another tornado destroyed 34 houses and three school buildings at Gunung Toar sub-district in Kuantan Singingi district, Riau Province.

Head of Kuantan Singingi Social and Labor Agency, Tarmis, said in Pekanbaru on Sunday that many houses were destroyed but the total amount of financial damage was still being calculated.

However, he added that no one was injured by the winds and people were working together to clean their villages and were renovating their damaged houses.

Tarmis stated that the government would propose building houses for the families whose houses were damaged.
