"Bank funding for creative industries is still a problem."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The banking industry in Indonesia has not given enough attention to the creative sectors because it has yet to understand them, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu said here on Friday.

"Bank funding for creative industries is still a problem, and we know it," Mari said during an orientation event for journalists to increase their knowledge about tourism and creative economy.

The minister said the growing creative industry had not yet received adequate support from banks and other financial institutions.

She added that the government especially the ministry of finance and Bank Indonesia (the central bank) needed to familiarise the banking industry with the creative sectors.

Mari said she had an informal meeting with the heads of national banks, namely the BNI Bank and Bank Mandiri, to discuss the creative sector and its potential.

"As a result, BNI has included it in its partnership and environment building programmes," she added. ***2***
