"I really hope that BUMNs, in the years to come, would increasingly cooperate with the private sector to boost the country`s food resilience," President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said.
Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia`s state-owned companies (BUMNs) have been urged to implement concrete measures to improve the nation`s food and energy resilience as well as step up efforts to produce environmentally friendly automobiles.

"I really hope that BUMNs, in the years to come, would increasingly cooperate with the private sector to boost the country`s food resilience," President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said during a meeting with BUMN commissioners and directors here on Wednesday.

"As for the plans presented by BUMNs at this meeting, I can help speed up their implementation by issuing the necessary regulations once I am clear about their concept," he added.

At the meeting, State Enterprises Minister Dahlan Iskan highlighted the achievements of BUMNs, such as Garuda Indonesia airlines, oil and gas company Pertamina, and BRI bank.

He explained the reason behind classifying the BUMNs into several categories such as food resilience, energy, technology and pioneering.

Dahlan also reported that several defunct BUMNs had been successfully revived.

The meeting was attended by some 110 BUMN leaders, while the President was accompanied by several cabinet ministers.

On the occasion, the head of state underlined the importance of BUMNs for the country`s economic development.

He also urged state-owned firms to take quick investment decisions in order to not avoid losing momentum.(*)
