to promote the country`s tourism and support `Run for Charity` community
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - A team of Indonesian athletes will promote Indonesian tourism while participating in New York City Marathon (NYCM) in the United States of America, in November 2012.

"We have two main purposes in taking part in the event, namely to promote the country`s tourism and support `Run for Charity` community," the tourism and creative economic ministry`s Director for International Tourism Promotion Nia Niscaya said here on Sunday.

She stated as preparations for their participation in the marathon event, the Indonesian runners will conduct an exercise by taking a Senayan-Monas-Senayan route which reaches a distance of 21 km.

Niscaya said that she fully supported the team.

Meanwhile, the founder of "Run for Charity" community, Sandiaga S. Uno, said that he will participate in such a marathon competition every year.

"Every participant will be offered to donate as much as the kilometer she or he covers, then we double the donation for selected foundations," he said.

He mentioned the selected foundations, such as Anyo Indonesia Foundation, "Cinta Anak Bangsa" Foundation, Bogor Public School Foundation, Indonesian Thalassaemia Foundation and Tritunggal Orphanage on Sumbawa Island in West Nusa Tenggara.

"I and other 40 runners are proud of taking part in NYMC 2012 because we are given an opportunity by the ministry to promote the Indonesian tourism themed `Wonderful Indonesia` to people there, and at the same time we will be able to donate," he said.
