"All environmental issues are our responsibility."
Karawang, West Java (ANTARA News) - Environment Minister Balthasar Kambuaya has stated that the industrial sector must play an important role in preserving the environment through the green industry programme.

"Every company is expected to be able to run corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects under the green industry programme, so our environment can be preserved," he said here during a planting ceremony organised by PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (Toyota) on Tuesday.

"All environmental issues are our responsibility, including global warming and climate change issues," he said.

"This programme of planting as many as one million trees over an area of 60 hectares in Situ Cipete, West Java, is aimed at encouraging the community to care about the environment," Balthasar explained.

Sharing the opinion, Toyota CEO Masahiro Nonami said the green industry programme reflected the company's commitment to environmental issues in the country.

He expressed optimism that large-scale plantation of trees would help reduce pollution in Indonesia.

"We not only focus on profit and production, but also are committed to contributing to the welfare of the community," Nonami said.

Meanwhile, Karawang Regent Ade Swara stated that the community must take care of the newly planted saplings in order to ensure the programme's success.

"At present, there are a lot of planting programmes being implemented in Situ Cipete," he added.
