Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Social Service Ministry will soon send emergency response assistance to quake-hit Central Aceh and Bener Meriah districts in Aceh province.

"Various kinds of assistance to handle quake victims during the emergency response period have been prepared and will soon be sent to quake-hit areas in Aceh," Social Service Minister Salim Segaf Al Jufri said in a press statement released on Wednesday.

He said a team of officials from the ministry departed for the affected areas on Wednesday morning to check the condition of quake victims.

The emergency response assistance includes rice, instant noodle, sugar, chili sauce, ketchup, cooking oil, canned fish, sarongs, batik clothes, T-shirts, footware, kids ware, family kits, and tents.

Coordinating Minister for People`s Welfare Agung Laksono and the social service minister are currently inspecting quake-hit areas in Aceh province.

An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale rocked Bener Meriah and Central Aceh districts on Tuesday at 02.37 p.m. local time.

Data from the National Disaster Mitigation Board (BNPB) show the quake has left 24 people dead, 210 others injured and thousands of houses damaged heavily and lightly.

Ten of the 24 dead victims were found in Central Aceh.

The Iskandar Muda Regional Military Command in Aceh province is deploying hundreds of soldiers to help quake victims in the two districts.

"Since yesterday we have deployed hundreds of soldiers to assist affected people in solving their problems," spokesman of the regional military command Col. Subagio Irianto said on Wednesday.
