Langkat, North Sumatra (ANTARA News) - Floods have forced around 100 families in Tanjungpura, Langkat District, North Sumatra Province, to evacuate themselves to safer areas, a local official said.

"Most of the evacuees are from three villages," Head of Tanjungpura Sub-district Surianto said here on Monday.

The three villages hit the worst by floods are Pematang Cengal, West Pematang Cengal, and Karya Maju.

The villagers have moved to higher grounds because their houses are submerged by floodwaters reaching a height of up to 1.5 meters.
