Let us improve what had not yet been achieved."
Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The general chairman of the ruling Democrat Party, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), had warned against spoiling what had already been put in order.

"Together with the Democrat Party, let us preserve and improve what had already been achieved. Do not mess it up. Let us improve what had not yet been achieved," he said in a speech at a campaign rally in Kemayoran here on Thursday.

A leader must be honest, President SBY, who will end his term in October this year and will not be allowed to seek reelection in the presidential election on July 9 because he had held that post for two terms, said.

He added that several things had already been achieved, although there was still "home work" to do and challenges to overcome in the next five years.

In view of that, he called on the people to again choose the Democrat Party in the upcoming legislative elections on April 9.

He said his party had direction, solutions, policies and plans for the next five years.

"The Democrat Party will continue to work hard to improve its achievements with evidence instead of mere promises," he remarked.

He said Indonesia had experienced a crisis and that must not happen again. In view of that, he warned against mismanagement or careless management of the country.

"We must not only call for change and not know what changes we want. Reform is continuous, seamlessly continuing what had been good, and so the changes that we want must be made clear. The changes that the Democrat Party had ushered in the past 10 years were clear," he said.

He added that a country must not be governed at will and by experiment because the people had expectations from the government.

"Moreover, the changes that were proposed should be strategically planned and managed with credibility and accountability," he said.

During the campaign, President Yudhyono again boasted about the successes so far, but also presented the partys agenda for the next five years.

He said there are five major and 11 special targets that the Democrat Party wished to meet, based on the partys agenda for the next five years.

The main targets include making the countrys economy continue its high growth and to become stronger, improving the peoples welfare, and furthering efforts already made in law enforcement and corruption eradication.

He said the Democrat Party also wished that the political conditions remained stable and the democracy becomes more mature, while the military and police forces become stronger to assure the countrys sovereignty and integrity at a time when its international role was improving.

The 11 special targets, meanwhile, cover poverty alleviation, education, health, food and energy sectors, improvement of small and medium businesses, modernization of military and police forces, the welfare of laborers and migrant workers, state employees and teachers, infrastructure development and corruption eradication.
