Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry has informed that national exports of medical devices in 2024 reached US$273 million, with domestic medical device transactions via e-catalogs increasing by 48 percent.

Director of the agricultural machinery and machinery industry at the ministry, Solehan, on Wednesday said that the launch of two ultrasound products by GE Healthcare is proof of the domestic medical device industry's readiness to scale up to the wider market.

He added that the new products are equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) to support more precise data collection to boost work efficiency and diagnostic accuracy.

Based on data from the National Industrial System (SINAS), 393 medical device companies are registered with the Indonesian Standard Classification of Business Fields (KBLI).

In addition, from the recapitulation data of the domestic component level (TKDN) certification, 2,505 TKDN certificates have been issued for medical device products and are still valid, Solehan informed.

"Among other products are hospital beds, syringes, tensiometers, electromedics, ventilators, and others with TKDN values ranging from 16.45 percent to 92.22 percent," he said.

He added that the ability to produce high-technology medical devices, such as ultrasound devices with AI, will attract foreign parties' interest to invest and develop medical devices in Indonesia.

His ministry is also supporting efforts to boost the potential of national medical devices, including through studies on strengthening raw materials for medical devices; collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Trade to promote products; establishing partnerships with academics, research institutions, and higher education to intensify innovation.

On the same occasion, director general of pharmacy and medical devices at the Ministry of Health, Lucia Rizka Andalusia, expressed her party's support for the development and adoption of AI in medical devices by ensuring the quality and accuracy of medical devices through Health Technology Assessment (HTA).

"Now, we are competing to find the most effective screening methods, diagnostic methods, and cost-effective medical devices. Our society continues to grow, and we want to provide more benefits for them," she said.
