Jakarta (ANTARA) - The governments of Indonesia and India have pledged to collaborate and explore concrete partnerships to achieve 5G connectivity and develop artificial intelligence (AI) in Indonesia.
This commitment was formalized during a meeting between Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid and Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Sandeep Chakravorty.
"We hope this collaboration can be realized soon with concrete steps, either through a technical working group or the preparation of a joint statement," Hafid noted in a statement on Tuesday.
The meeting between the two countries on Monday (April 28) is expected to initiate a joint step towards an inclusive and sovereign digital future for both Indonesia and India.
The agenda also follows the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by Indonesia and India in January 2025 regarding cooperation in artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and digital infrastructure development.
According to Hafid, cooperation between the two countries in 5G and AI aligns with Indonesia's national priority to accelerate digital transformation.
She then highlighted Indonesia's flexible non-aligned foreign policy as an important asset for building global strategic partnerships, including with India.

During the meeting, the minister also emphasized Indonesia's support for developing inclusive AI technology based on the principle of diversity and not being dominated by several countries.
"AI technology must be inclusive for everyone, for all countries, not just a few countries," she affirmed while underscoring Indonesia's position in international forums such as BRICS.
In the same statement, Ambassador Chakravorty noted that digital cooperation is one of the bilateral priorities of the two countries.
"Telecommunications cooperation is underway, and we hope to finalize this MoU to strengthen ties in this field," he stated.
He affirmed that the Indian private sector is prepared to contribute actively through companies such as Tejas Networks.
"Tejas Networks is ready to be involved in digital and telecommunications projects in Indonesia, which will accelerate the adoption of the latest technology," he remarked.
As a follow-up, both countries plan to hold more detailed technical discussions ahead of a summit in June 2025 to accelerate the implementation of concrete cooperation in the 5G and AI sectors.
