Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy chair of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR), Budisatrio Djiwandono, has sought a thorough investigation into the explosion during the disposal of expired ammunition in Cibalong, Garut district, West Java.
He assured that Commission I of the DPR will fully support the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) in transparently investigating the incident, which left 13 people, including TNI officers, dead.
This, according to Djiwandono, is necessary to identify the cause of the incident and prevent any recurrence.
"We think there is a need for a thorough audit of the SOP (standard operating procedure) of logistical management and the disposal of expired ammunition," he said here on Tuesday.
In addition, he stressed that protecting civilians during high-risk military activities is important to prevent loss of life.
The dissemination of information on military activity locations and restrictions on access to such locations must be evaluated and tightened to ensure that people's safety is not neglected, he said.
The incident, he added, should be a reminder that adherence to SOPs must be prioritized.
"The safety of all parties, both military officers and civilians, is the main priority in every similar activity or other military activities," he said.
He conveyed his deepest condolences over the loss of lives in the incident.
The TNI earlier confirmed that 13 people, including four military officers, were killed in the explosion, which occurred while they were trying to dispose of expired ammunition on Monday.
The explosion occurred at 9:30 a.m. local time at a site belonging to the Garut District Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) in Sagara village, Garut district.
