Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has urged organizers of sacrificial animal slaughter during the 2025 Eid al-Adha celebrations to refrain from dumping animal waste into rivers, warning that such actions could harm both the environment and public health.

"The handling of sacrificial animals should not have an impact on the community, especially by disposing of remains into rivers," Pramono said in Jakarta on Monday.

He also instructed all mayors, especially in Central Jakarta, to regulate the locations where sacrificial animals are sold to avoid disrupting public comfort.

"In some areas, vendors have occupied roads, parks, and other public spaces. The sale of sacrificial animals must be properly managed," Pramono emphasized.

The DKI Jakarta Environmental Service appealed to all residents and sacrificial committees in Jakarta to adopt the Eco Qurban principle in carrying out sacrificial worship during the Eid al-Adha 1446 H celebrations, particularly by avoiding the disposal of waste into sewers.

This appeal is based on DKI Jakarta Governor Regulation Number 10 of 2022 concerning Guidelines for Organizing Sacrificial Animal Slaughtering.

This regulates the handling of liquid and solid waste to minimize environmental pollution.

Eco Qurban is a concept that promotes the slaughter of sacrificial animals in an environmentally responsible manner, either on-site or at designated slaughter facilities.

The principle emphasizes avoiding environmental pollution, both during and after slaughter, ensuring that blood or other remains of sacrificial animals are not carelessly discarded into drains, sewers, or rivers.

Improper disposal of sacrificial waste can lead to unpleasant odors, disrupt the comfort of residents, pose health risks, and harm the ecosystem of water bodies.

In addition, the Ministry of Environment has urged local governments and communities to refrain from using plastic during the Eid al-Adha 2025 celebrations.

"We urge the committee responsible for distributing sacrificial meat not to use plastic bags and/or appeal to the public to bring their reusable plastic containers for sacrificial meat distribution," Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq stated on May 31.
