Jakarta (ANTARA) -

Eid al-Adha serves as a moment for humanity to purify their souls and strengthen noble morals, said Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti during the Eid al-Adha prayer in South Tangerang, Banten, on Friday.

“Today, we celebrate Eid al-Adha as part of the Islamic teachings and divine message that Allah has revealed to humanity,” he said, according to a statement released on Saturday.

He emphasized that Eid al-Adha should be seen as a reflection of piety and the highest form of sincerity toward God Almighty.

Speaking before hundreds of Muslims, Mu’ti shared three core meanings of Eid al-Adha.

Quoting from a book by Prof. Ahmad Zahro, Mu’ti explained that Eid al-Adha brings joy, promotes compassion, and upholds justice—all of which aim to create meaningful benefits for humanity.

He called on worshipers to use the occasion as an opportunity to grow closer to God and fellow human beings.

Mu’ti also noted that sacrificing animals is encouraged as a symbol of faith and devotion.

“The essence of sacrifice is to purify the soul, suppress animalistic impulses, eliminate selfishness, and break down social barriers. Through sacrifice, we hope to build social harmony and bring blessings to life,” he said.

He closed his remarks by encouraging worshipers to pray and express gratitude.

“May our worship this Eid al-Adha serve as a strong foundation for us to remain pious and contribute meaningfully to our nation and society,” Mu’ti added.
