Surabaya, East Java (ANTARA) - PAL Indonesia entered into seven strategic partnerships covering platform development, maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of weapon systems, submarine procurement, and more at the Indo Defence Expo and Forum 2025.
Wiyono Komodjojo, Marketing Director of the state-owned shipbuilder, said on Saturday that the agreements include a strategic tie-up with Turkish shipyard TAIS.
The partnership will focus on developing combatant and non-combatant ship platforms, with an offset scheme to be executed domestically, he noted.
PAL also signed a cooperation agreement with Bofors for MRO services on 40 mm and 57 mm caliber weapon systems.
Additionally, it signed an agreement with French naval defense company Naval Group for the purchase of Scorpene Evolved submarines and frigates.
A memorandum of understanding was also signed with Iridium to establish a joint venture in integrated logistics support (ILS).
“These collaborations reflect strong international synergy in reinforcing the defense industry while strengthening diplomatic ties,” Komodjojo said.
He noted that PAL’s presence and products at the expo drew interest from defense attachés of various countries.
PAL’s current product lineup includes hospital ships and frigates. It also recently introduced new products such as a Maritime Combat Management System (CMS) for warships and an unmanned autonomous submarine.
“One of our global partners has even expressed interest in purchasing and observing the submarine’s sea trials,” Komodjojo said.
He emphasized that PAL’s participation in the expo underscores the company’s commitment to advancing the national defense industry and broader industrial ecosystem.
“Our goal is to grow national companies, reduce reliance on foreign products, and strengthen technological and human resource self-reliance,” he said.
