Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno said the Jakarta provincial government plans to organize an exhibition in Shanghai, China, as a reciprocal gesture for the ongoing event co-organized with the Shanghai Art Collection Museum, West Jakarta.

“I hope that we can hold an exhibition in Shanghai in 2027, coinciding with the 500th anniversary of Jakarta. We are currently collaborating here, and maybe, we will organize a similar event there,” he remarked.

Karno made the statement during the opening of an exhibition featuring artifacts related to the voyages of Admiral Cheng Ho from the Ming Dynasty, held at the Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics in West Jakarta on Friday.

He remarked that the plan for the Shanghai exhibition is feasible but will require rigorous preparation by the Jakarta government.

He stated that the governments of Jakarta and Shanghai plan to cooperate through a sister museum scheme to facilitate collection exchanges.

“We will foster a sister museum partnership, which I believe can make it easier for us to design the exhibition. It should be noted that extensive planning is necessary,” Rano stated.

He further explained that the ongoing Cheng Ho exhibition, titled "Miles Apart, Close at Heart," serves as a foundation for the sister museum partnership.

He highlighted that the event aims to promote the values of peace and openness, as reflected in the maritime journeys of Cheng Ho, a eunuch and diplomat widely recognized in Indonesia as a Muslim admiral from China.

The deputy governor emphasized that the exhibition embodies the spirit of collaboration and shared historical heritage between Indonesia and China.

He expressed hope that through the cultural and historical narratives echoed by the event, Indonesia and China would further strengthen their enduring ties.

Meanwhile, Head of the Jakarta Culture Office Mochamad Miftahulloh Tamary noted that the exhibition features 50 selected items from both China and Indonesia.

“The items vary, including treasure charts, celestial navigation charts, maritime maps, stone steles from the Ming dynasty, porcelain, and pottery,” he elaborated.
