Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Investment/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) is collaborating with relevant institutions to ensure Indonesia's copper products exported to the United States originate from domestic downstream processing and value-added activities.
This was stated by Director of Mineral and Coal Downstreaming at the Ministry of Investment/BKPM, Rizwan Aryadi Ramdhan, in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Ramdhan made the statement in response to US President Donald Trump's acknowledgment of Indonesia's high-quality copper as he announced a reduction in reciprocal tariffs from 32 percent to 19 percent.
"Together, we are formulating policies that support downstreaming. Thus, we do not export raw materials," Rizwan remarked.
He explained that the Indonesian government has banned copper concentrate exports, thereby encouraging downstream processing to be conducted within the country.
“We fully support the development of domestic production facilities,” he stressed.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced a 19 percent import tariff on Indonesian products entering the US. He stated that the tariff decision resulted from direct negotiations with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

“Indonesia will pay a 19 percent tariff to the United States for all of their goods imported into our country,” Trump stated, referring to the agreement reached with Indonesia on import tariffs, as posted on Truth Social and monitored from Jakarta on Wednesday.
Following a meeting between Indonesia’s Minister of Trade and the US Trade Representative (USTR) in Washington, D.C., on July 9, 2025, both parties agreed to delay the tariff implementation, granting a three-week window for further negotiations.
The negotiations also cover non-tariff barriers, digital economy cooperation, and collaboration on critical minerals such as nickel and copper.
The US has reportedly expressed interest in strengthening strategic partnerships in these sectors.
“Indonesia has some great products and valuable mineral commodities, including high-quality copper,” Trump remarked. (
