Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Transportation Ministry carried out a traffic and road transport safety inspection during the long weekend holiday period commemorating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (Maulid Nabi) 1447 Hijri.

“This inspection aims to ensure and enhance the safety of passenger transport,” the ministry's Director General of Land Transportation, Aan Suhanan, said while inspecting in Bogor, West Java, as quoted in a statement received here on Friday.

The inspection, which involved both supervision and law enforcement measures, was conducted at the Rest Area KM 45A in Bogor District, on September 5-6.

It was held in collaboration with the Indonesian Military (TNI), National Police, local transportation office, West Java Class I Land Transportation Management Center (BPTD), state toll operator Jasa Marga, and state-owned insurance company Jasa Raharja.

He said the inspection team conducted ramp checks on a total of 70 buses, comprising 65 tour buses, three inter-provincial buses, and two intercity buses.

Based on the inspection results, 23 buses, or 33 percent, were found to have committed violations, while 47 buses, or 67 percent, complied with both administrative and technical requirements.

“Among the 23 non-compliant vehicles, inspectors found 34 types of technical violations, including six vehicles with expired roadworthiness certificates (KIR), four vehicles without KIR data, and one vehicle with a forged electronic test certificate,” he noted.

Additionally, 12 vehicles were found operating without a valid operational license card while two others were using fake cards.

Vehicles found in violation were subjected to sanctions in accordance with the type of offense, he warned.

Suhanan urged the public to ensure their safety by checking the roadworthiness of buses they plan to use through the Mitra Darat mobile app, which is available on the App Store and Play Store.
