Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Bali provincial authority officially ended its emergency response status on September 17, following severe flooding that affected nearly all parts of the island province last week.
According to an official from the Bali Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), I Gede Agung Teja Bhusana Yadnya, Governor Wayan Koster revoked the emergency status as conditions have gradually improved.
“Considering the ongoing improvement in conditions, the reduced need for emergency response operations, and the assessment by the disaster mitigation team, the Governor of Bali has decided to terminate the disaster response status,” Yadnya stated in a written statement on Thursday.
Despite the end of the emergency status, the Bali provincial government will continue recovery efforts and provide assistance to affected residents, he added.
Authorities will also accelerate aid distribution to merchants in public markets and support residents in repairing their homes, along with restoring public facilities and infrastructure.
“Recovery operations will be carried out collaboratively by district, city, and provincial governments, in coordination with the central government, and with participation from the public and business sectors,” he said.
Yadnya urged residents to remain vigilant, as adverse weather conditions are still expected in the coming days.
“Stay alert to potential hazards in your area and take appropriate measures to mitigate risks,” he advised.
The flood that struck nearly all districts and Denpasar City on September 10 claimed at least 18 lives, with three people still reported missing after a week of search and rescue operations during the emergency response period.
According to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the flash flood—triggered by heavy rainfall—caused extensive damage to homes, public facilities, and infrastructure, affecting more than 6,000 families across Denpasar and surrounding regions.
BNPB also reported damage to 520 public facilities, 82 retaining walls, 194 homes, and three bridges, along with road disruptions at 23 locations throughout Bali.
