Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Bali Governor Wayan Koster has requested medical equipment assistance from Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin following the massive flooding that affected large parts of the island last week.

Koster stated that his meeting with Minister Sadikin was a follow-up to earlier discussions with the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture and the Coordinating Minister for Law and Human Rights regarding post-flood recovery support.

“During the meeting with Minister Sadikin, I requested medical equipment assistance for Wangaya Regional General Hospital in Denpasar, which was damaged by the flood,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

The request was submitted by the Denpasar City Government, the area most severely impacted by the flooding. The regional hospital, along with its medical supplies, was submerged, and power was cut off.

According to Koster, Minister Sadikin responded positively and assured that Bali would receive the necessary assistance to support recovery efforts.

“The minister also plans to visit Bali to assess the post-flood situation firsthand,” Koster added.

During his visit to Jakarta, the governor also met with several national officials, including Lasarus, Chairman of Commission V of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI).

In the meeting, Koster proposed priority infrastructure development for 2026, including the normalization of the Tukad Badung and Tukad Unda rivers, among other initiatives, in response to the recent flooding.

“The Chairman expressed strong support for the proposal, which will be discussed by Commission V in an upcoming working meeting with the Minister of Public Works,” he said.

In addition to flood-related discussions, Koster also met with Minister of Law Supratman Andi Atgas to convey the Badung District Government’s proposal to relocate Kerobokan Prison to Bangli District.

“We proposed relocating Kerobokan Prison to Bangli, and the minister was very supportive of the idea,” he noted.

The flood disaster struck Bali after more than 24 hours of heavy rainfall beginning on Tuesday, September 9.

On September 10, the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) recorded flooding and landslides in 123 locations across seven districts and cities: Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, Tabanan, Klungkung, Karangasem, and Jembrana.
