Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Agency for International Development (Indonesian AID) on Wednesday morning dispatched humanitarian aid to Palestine in the form of medicines and medical equipment worth US$2 million.

"This aid is a part of the Indonesian government's assistance to Palestine. The first batch was sent on November 20 (2023) from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base," secretary of the Directorate General of Financing and Risk Management of the Finance Ministry, Ubaidi Socheh Hamidi, informed in Jakarta.

The humanitarian aid was sent on a chartered Airbus A330-900neo aircraft belonging to Lion Air, which flew directly from Jakarta to El-Arish Airport in Egypt, he added.

The plane took off at 4:30 a.m. local time and landed in Egypt the same day at 11 a.m. local time.

He informed that the aid will be handed over to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) through the Egyptian Red Crescent to be distributed to affected residents in Palestine.

On a separate occasion, the director of Indonesian AID, Tormarbulang Lumbantobing, said that the aid consignment consisted of 55 pallets of medicines and medical equipment worth Rp31.9 billion or US$2 million.

The assistance was funded by his agency with the full support of the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Finance.

All the items were sent based on a list of needs recommended by UNRWA, he informed.

"All the items sent are goods that are really needed by Gaza residents," he added.

Indonesian AID is a public service agency under the Finance Ministry. It was formed to assist international development cooperation, including carrying out humanitarian missions.

The Indonesian government's delivery of humanitarian aid is a form of synergy between a number of ministries, institutions, and other parties to carry out the mandate of the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution, namely to participate in building a world order based on independence, peace, and social justice.
