Agam, West Sumatra (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government will cover all costs to repair roads and bridges damaged by recent flash floods in Malalak, Agam District, West Sumatra, Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said Monday.

During a visit to affected villages in Malalak Subdistrict, Hanggodo, accompanied by Deputy Chair of House Commission VI Andre Rosiade and West Sumatra Deputy Governor Vasko Ruseimy, inspected damage caused by flash floods.

Hanggodo said President Prabowo Subianto had stressed the government's commitment to restoring disaster-hit areas in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

"This aligns with President Prabowo's pledge to fully support communities, enabling them to return to normal life — or even improve it," he said.

The Public Works Ministry will first map infrastructure damage, including roads and bridges. If main routes remain usable, repairs will proceed. If not, new routes may be constructed in coordination with local authorities.

"If repair is impossible, we will make a new route. Our team will map it out," Hanggodo added.

Legislator Andre Rosiade said he has discussed with the minister efforts to accelerate recovery. "Hopefully, the recovery will be completed within a year," he said.
