Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is preparing a revision of Minister of Trade Regulation Number 31 of 2023 to improve the e-commerce and online marketplace ecosystem.
The move follows recent complaints from small sellers regarding high administrative and logistics fees charged by platforms.
"We are currently preparing a revision to the Trade Minister Regulation regarding the e-commerce ecosystem. However, I cannot disclose the details yet as it is still under discussion," Trade Minister Budi Santoso told the press in Jakarta on Sunday.
Digital trade in Indonesia is currently regulated under the Minister of Trade Regulation Number 31 of 2023 on Business Licensing, Advertising, and the Development and Supervision of Businesses in Electronic Commerce.
Santoso further explained that the revision aims to strengthen protection for local products—including those from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs)—enhance consumer protection, and prioritize the promotion of local products on e-commerce platforms and marketplaces.
"We are working together to improve the e-commerce ecosystem, involving business players, platform owners, and sellers. However, it is not finalized yet, as discussions are still ongoing," he asserted.
The minister ensured that all relevant stakeholders, from platforms to sellers, are involved in the discussions regarding the regulation's revision.
He further underscored the need to create an ecosystem that is mutually beneficial for both platforms and sellers.
"We have to ensure they can work in tandem, with their respective obligations being mutually beneficial so that the ecosystem functions effectively," he remarked.
